Merseyside ICT wanted a new approach to their monthly newsletter that gave control back to them and their recipients.
Previously, recipients of the Merseyside ICT newsletter would receive an email with a link to a PDF file of the newsletter. The turnaround time to getting content written and then published as a PDF was a source of some concern for Merseyside ICT. They wanted more control over the newsletter so that they could add content to it, make last minute amends and control when it was sent out.
sdesign1 proposed an HTML email newsletter which removed the requirement for recipients to click on a link to a PDF file and immediately served up the news they wanted to read in their inbox. An alternative version on the web was provided for those who preferred reading in their browsers. At the same time a 'liquid' layout was used for the newsletter which expanded or shrank to fit the user's window size maximising readability.
'I felt that the newsletter really hit the mark. It was brought up to date and made more accessible to our members. sdesign1 spent a lot of time testing the effectiveness of the system and we have received a much better response than previously. It is easy for us to make any changes and we like being able to manage the process without relying on outside resources'
, said Helen Cross, Marketing & Communications Manager for Merseyside ICT.
'The newsletter sums up everything we are about at sdesign1
', said sdesign1's director Phil Smears. 'We wanted to give control back to the client and its customers and ensure everyone could access the newsletter regardless of their email client or platform. When you put users first and pay attention to detail it's possible to create a much more effective experience for everyone
'.
