Accessibility, Usability & Compliance
How to make your Web site work for you. 2nd April - Liverpool.
Below is a list of current and recently completed web design projects for clients. There are unfortunately some projects which are subject to client confidentiality agreements which we can't list.
We have some really nice looking web sites on the chopping block at the moment. Here are some screenshots:
Possibly one of the best looking independent school web sites in the North West, the Tower College web site reflects the school's commitment to high standards in all spheres. The site is updated by teachers and pupils who have been trained by sdesign1.The CMS used was Joomla as client was already familiar with it. We used the latest version of Joomla (1.5) which has an accessible template called Beez which was relatively easy to customise.
Another beautiful looking content managed standards compliant web site. The Content Management System is Wordpress which the client has found particularly easy to use. Eeach section has a different header, and client can post announcements and edit pages. We tweaked the WordPress search facility and came up with an even better search. It's important for travel sites to look good and this one does exactly that.
A quality site for a quality printer. The new site demonstrates Calibre's focus on visual excellence and attention to detail. We threw in a logo too as part of some brand development. This is another web site updated using WordPress. It really works well as a simple to use CMS. The design is a customised version of the Freshy theme. The client was very impressed by the turnaround time on this site - that's the beauty of WordPress..
As an accountancy practice grows so should their web site. This web site can also grow with your monitor too! Try resizing your browser window and see what happens to header graphic. A new alert box allows client to post the latest news concerning changes to tax regulations. We went the extra mile on this one moving it to our servers free of charge when Fasthost failed to fix a bug on theirs. Layout is liquid so page fills your screen no matter what size.
This site shows the power of Wordpress and themes. We took the Fjords theme and customised it with a new header and a few plugins here and there and hey presto a site that looks gorgeous and has plenty of functionality. Check out the gallery page. If you fancy a trip to Puffin Island to get away from it all, visit this site. Client will be adding more content shortly - when he comes back from his latest cruise!!
A company whose aim is 'Improving Sales Effectiveness'
needs to demonstrate its grasp of the importance of the web - a start is a professional looking web site. We availed ourselves of their services and were very impressed. Unlike other 'coaches' they provide practical nitty gritty advice on how to carry out a sales campaign. Client said they were amazed at how easy it was to update their site. I think they put all the content on in one night!
This is a closed web application available only to subscribers. It allows companies to track environmental legislation and their level of compliance with it. Each company comments on the legislation and what they are doing to comply, thus creating an audit trail. Legislation is served up according to company location so they only see legislation relevant to their region.

sdesign1 has subcontracted to IAS Smarts on a number of web design projects below:
sdesign1 manages the Scotrail Web site which runs on top of an enterprise level custom content management system built on a php/MySQL platform. There are a number of interactive components such as competitions, offers and a newsletter which is emailed out to almost 10, 000 recipients. The site uses a liquid layout and images on the home page compress and expand according to window size.
Department for Transport Accessibility Auditsdesign1 were solely responsible for the accessibility audit on the Department for Transport in November 2006. This entailed manual testing of 21 templates and ascertaining their compliance with respect to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 . Automated validation on 10 000 pages was also carried out.
As any vintner will tell you, fresh from the vineyard isn't necessarily best.
We manage the Merseyside ICT monthly newsletter. This consists of inserting content into a template developed by sdesign1 to perform across a number of email applications such as Outlook 2007, Hotmail, Gmail, Eudora, Outlook Express, Thunderbird and Squirrel mail. The email newsletter also has a link to a compliant and accessible browser version. We don't think anyone else does something like this.
Before sdesign1 revamped the Solas web site there was no clear page structure and it wasn't clear what elements were headings, what were links and what were not links. The graphic design failed to convey a fully professional brand. That's changed now and client can update site if and when they wish.

A Botswana based safari company whose web site (www.ulinda.com) sdesign1 have managed since 2002. It features XHTML strict pages, all of which validate since 2002! It's also driven by the sdesign1 mini CMS , a PHP/MySQL application.
